Aztec Empire
Aztec empire was founded in 1335C.E. on an island in Lake Texcoco located in Central Mexico with a population of 200,000 people. They built large pyramids as temples to their gods. Some temples would be made to specific gods, some for specific celebrations. They would go to the temples to pray and make offerings to the gods to keep them strong. The temples were built on swamps so sometimes they would sink and they would have to rebuild them. They called their ruler the Tenochtitlan. The people were also known as Tenocha . In 1521 the Spanish had conquered the Aztecs, as they tore down much of the Aztec empire.
Inca Empire
The Inca temples were paved in gold. They called their Empire Tahuantinsuyu or land of the four quarters. One of the most common items made in the pottery industry of the inca people was the Aryballlos, they were often decorated in a geometric design that had rows of spikes going down the sides. Other vases created by the inca people were goblets known as keros. Other inca arts were metal sculpting, they would use metals like copper and bronze for axes and knives. metals like gold and silver were made for ceremonies and nobles for the inca royal family.
Maya
A.D. 250 was the golden age of the maya empire. each city had a population about 5,000 to 50,000 people. They grew crops like corn, beans, squash and cassava. The mayans sculpted temples, monuments, and buildings. The worked with trachyte, sandstone, wood, and clay. They used stone tools and wooden mallets to build their things. They used a device the moved between the potters feet called a kabal. They made whistles shaped like animals also made cooking pots and drinking containers. The Tzakol and Tepeu are considered the most beautiful pottery made in Mesoamerica.
