Asoka was one and last of the emperor of of the Maurya empire. Originally his grandfather, Chandragupta Maurya, was ruler, but he felt the position of a emperor was tiring. Asoka’s lifeline was from 304 B.C to 223 B.C. He also was a expondist, which means he would love to expand his empire to other territories. Basically Ashoka wanted to gain lots of territory in Maurya , but soon enough he would notice that all this violence and conquering was not a good look as an emperor.
Asoka was a conqueror looking to expand his empire and conquer by force, but as soon he notice all the killings and all the gorey wars, in Deccan(peninsula of south india between Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats), he had caused. So after those wars he converted to Buddhism and stopped all his conquesting . Buddhism is a path of practice and spiritual development leading to Insight into the true nature of reality. Asoka gave up all his conquering just to give in to a peaceful lifestyle and prosper with his religion.
Chandragupta, Ashoka's grandfather was ruler before him. As like Ashoka , they were both expansionist, looking to conquer over the whole land . He also changed like his son but instead of Buddhism it was Janeism. A religion of India that teaches a path to spiritual purity and enlightenment through a disciplined mode of life founded upon the tradition of Ahemia.
