The Golden Age of Gupta, ruled from A.D. 320 to about 540, India enjoyed a golden age, or period of great cultural achievement. Gupta rule was probably looser than of the Mauryas. Trade and farming flourished across the Gupta Empire. They made a lot of events of: Music, Sculpture, Dance and Painting. Gupta mathematicians devised the system of writing numbers that we use today.
The Gupta Empire gave power to the individual villages of the empire and the city governments. For mostly 500 years, the various states fought with each other. In the northern territories, a new empire arose when a ruler named Chandragupta. The Gupta Period of India was not characterized by enormous material wealth. Gupta protects the villages from raids and revolts.
This time was when economic and social conditions were comfortable which gave people time to bring out their skills that they have. Strong trade relationships made the Gupta Empire an important cultural center. Its Golden Age visited Burma, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia.
The Chinese traveler Fa Xian visited India from 399 – 405 CE during the reign of Emperor Chandragupta II, and he recorded all of his observations in a journal that was published later.We have some information about the golden age based on his observations today
The Gupta Empire ended in 550 CE when it regional kingdoms weaken the rulers and invasions from the east, west and the north. Nomadic Huns invaded India from the northwest and gradually reduced the power of the empire.
