Dear wife and son,
Our emperor, Shi Huangdi, i used to think is a good guy but later in the letter you will find out why i don’t anymore. Some of his good traits are that he united the two parts of China. He also united two religions with legalism which is basically harsh rules and punishments which was Hanfeizi’s concept. He also had a hand in making The Great Wall of China which help keep all of their enemies from intruding. Another good thing is that he standardized the currency, writing system, and the measurements. So if you just to hear these traits you would think he is pretty nice but you haven't seen his bad side.
Just because he did some things good doesn't mean he didn't do anything bad. The fact that he killed anybody who didn't follow his rule was bad enough. He also burned books that opposed his rule. The books he didn't burn was medicine and agriculture. He also killed people who knew things. He would kill scholars that would get in the way of his county unification.
As you know I work as a poet and as a poet I know a lot, but the problem is that our emperor does not want his people to know anything. He says knowing things causes you to think and thinking makes you question how things are meant to be and he doesn't want that. He says that he knows what's best and that he doesn’t want to hear your opinion And because i know a lot and think a lot he is unfortunately sending me to my condemnation which is something I know we all are sad about and I want to make sure i tell both of you how much I love you.
Sincerely,
Qu Yuan
