The Iliad and the Odyssey were two epic poems about the Trojan War. Homer is the man responsible for creating these poems. He lived around 750 B.C.E. He was a blind man who went to town to town singing of these tales. Many years later, the stories were written down. The Iliad describes Achilles , the mightiest Greek warrior, and his defeat during the war. The Odyssey talks about the struggles of the greek hero, Odysseus, trying to go home after his long journey. Both poems reveal the values about ancient greeks and how Greece became a dominant power in the Western Mediterranean. You can pull many great themes, like the glory of war and the famous saying: “Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes” which means be cautious of Greek gifts.

Agamemnon was the king of Mycenae and leader of the Achaean army. He was often arrogant and selfish, which generally was reckless at leadership. Odysseus battled magical creatures and the fought of the gods . He had a wife and her name was Penelope, and a son,Telemachus. Odysseus most memorable thing about himself is his bravery and strength and also he was known for his cleverness . Odysseus goal is to go from Troy to Ithaca where he is from . He has been away from his homeland for 20 years and he wants to return .

The Odyssey did everything he possibly could to get to his homeland, but while he was trying to do that he was punished by Poseidon, because he was not respecting his rules and he was just doing what he liked .
