Alexander the Great was remarkably one of the greatest leaders in the world. His full name was Alexander the Great III of Macedon. Alexander was the son of Philip II and Olympias. He had an infant sibling, but his mother killed him because the infant boy was from Philip II’s other wife. At age thirteen, Alexander was tutored by the great philosopher, Aristotle. Aristotle taught Alexander geography, zoology, politics, and medicine. When Alexander was twenty, his father was assassinated at his daughter’s wedding and Alexander became king over his father’s empire.
At an early age, Alexander the Great showed many qualities of becoming a great leader. One day Alexander’s father, Philip II, bought a horse for thirteen talents (1 talent = 27kg of gold). He bravely faced the horse and tamed it. When Philip the II witness his son bravely tame the horse he said “My boy, you must find a kingdom big enough for your ambitions. Macedonia is too small for you.”

Alexander the Great also founded many new cities where he built temples and statues. He also had control over his great empire. One of his city-states, Thebes, revolted against him by trying to start a rebellion. In response to the revolt in Thebes, Alexander the Great killed or sold into slavery thirty thousand of the cities inhabitants before burning the city to the ground. Alexander was not really a ruthless leader, but he did not tolerate any rebellions within his large empire.
Alexander the Great greatly encouraged the blending of eastern and western cultures and spreaded many of his ideas throughout Europe and Asia. Alexander the Great’s unexpected death was a shock to everyone. His impact on the world still is alive today.,
